The First Connection – How a first connection with another person can change a person’s life

Val Winter and Judith Stratton share their experience of how a first connection with another person can change a person’s life. Judith, Community Navigator, met Val shortly after her husband Roy had passed away and when she was in danger of becoming socially isolated. With Judith’s support Val started to go to groups, meet new people and make new friends. Val’s story powerfully demonstrates the impact that one first connection can make.

The work of the Community Navigator project not only enriched Val’s life but has given the opportunity for Val to give something back to her community, and also engaged other socially isolated people that without Val’s introduction to the project may never have happened.

The team of four Community Navigators engage directly with Islanders in their villages and towns and set up new groups and activities based around the interests of the locals, as well as helping to connect people with existing social opportunities. Members play an essential part in planning new activities, and in keeping them sustainable for the future.

Contact your local Community Navigator to find out how they can help connect you to social opportunities in your area, or point you in the right direction of other useful services.
