Age Friendly Island (a project funded by The Big Lottery Fund) and Vectis Radio are working in partnership to produce a regular show, ‘Older and Wiser’.
Vectis Radio is the Isle of Wight’s community radio station, ‘for the people, by the people’ and is manned by local volunteers. The Age Friendly Island project aims to create a community that is ‘happy, healthy and connected’. It strives to make the Island a place where older people age well in every way, every day.
The Older and Wiser programme will inform Islanders about projects and initiatives that are taking place across the Island, together with Age Friendly Island, to enhance the lives of our older residents.
Our first show will take place on Wednesday 13th December 2017 at 3pm as part of James and Judy’s Wednesday Afternoon Show.
The pilot show – featuring IOW Trading Standards – will talk about how people can prevent themselves from becoming victims of financial abuse through scams on the phone, by mail and online. The IOW is sadly also targeted by criminals seeking to take advantage of older and more vulnerable people through doorstep scams and the show will highlight ways for them to keep safe.
The show will give details of the great work Isle of Wight Against Scams Partnership (‘IWASP’) provides to advise and support victims, and how to get in touch if help is needed.
The next programme will take place on Wednesday 17th January at 3pm, following which the first and third Wednesday of each month at 3pm.
